be done through a alpha parameter (Alphablending), or through a ColourKey
parameter (ColourKey).
In the first case, each of the points of the main plane has an alpha value
associated. This value ranges between all 0 (main plane visible) to all 1
(secondary plane visible). For intermediate values, a weighted average of the
values of the point in the two planes is used. The number of bits of the alpha
value will be 1 when using a colour space of 16 bits and 8 when using a
colour space of 32 bits.
In the second case, the colour key is used as "transparent" colour. The pixels
in the main plane with this colour will present the value of the secondary
plane. The value of the colour key must be configurable.
The main video plane must be visible in the Linux user region across a
framebuffer device. The secondary video plane, used for video decoding, will
be visible when the digital signal can’t be decoded with a special hardware.
