STLF-NA-TRD-REQ-1010 QoS parameters are imposed by applications and may also be customer-

related. The following parameters, taken from IBIS and ITU standards, are

needed as a minimum set to characterize QoS requirements:

 Delay tolerance (CTD): maximum elapsed time permitted for a packet to be

passed from the sender, through the network, to the receiver in order to keep

the service at an acceptable level. Setup time (Service access time) and data

transfer delay requirements may both be provided. For interactive services,

the most significant delay is the response time.

 Jitter tolerance (CDV): maximum variation permitted in end-to-end transit

delay in order to maintain the service at an acceptable level.

 Loss tolerance (CLR): maximum loss permitted (bits, packets or cell) to

keep the service at an acceptable level. The units may be Bit Error Rate, or

Packet/cell error rate.
